India Evangelist Hacked to Death

John 15:20 `Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord; if me they did persecute, you also they will persecute; if my word they did keep, yours also they will keep;

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Worthy News)– A police investigation continued Friday, May 7, into the killing of an Indian evangelist who investigators said was hacked to death in eastern India after showing a film on the life of Jesus Christ.

The mutilated body of Ravi Murmu, 30, was found this week in Jamalpur municipality in India’s Bihar state, said the All India Christian Council (AICC), a coalition of churches and mission groups.

AICC said Murmu was part of an evangelistic team showing ‘Dayasagar”’, a film about Jesus Christ Sunday, May 2, to residents of Laksmanpur village in Jamalpur.the internationally known “Jesus” film Sunday, May 2, to residents of Laksmanpur village in Jamalpur.

Murmu and his co-workers left the village after the film show, but the evangelist never reached home, according to his family and rights activists.

A search began later Sunday, May 2, and soon the murdered evangelist was found with his right hand cut off, and deep cut wounds on his neck and other parts of his body, according to witnesses.

SUSPECTS DETAINED

Shailendra Murmu, a brother of Ravi and an evangelist himself, reportedly said that his brother was apparently murdered between 9:30 and 10:00 PM local time.

Police detained two suspects, but no more details were released Friday, May 7, AICC added.

Christians have not ruled out that the evangelist was targeted by Hindu militants for his conversion activities, as attackers did not confiscate personal belongings, including his motor bike, mobile phone, watch and Bible.

Ravi is survived by his wife Rinku, eight-year-old daughter Celesty, and his widowed mother, Christians said.

Murmu was buried Monday, May 3, reported the Union of Catholic Asian News (UCAN).

“GOD’S PEACE”

When Shailendra was asked how the family is doing after the death of his brother, he reportedly said that “the peace of God still reigns in this house and in this family.”

“My only prayer now is that the Lord may forgive those who killed Ravi Murmu and that they may confess their sins,” UCAN quoted Pastor Yunus Mandal, who heads the late evangelist’s Bethel Assembly church in Jamalpur.

The killing comes amid mounting concerns over deadly attacks against devoted Christians in several parts of India, a heavily Hindu nation of over one billion people.

Bible Study with a Hindu

by Bob Danklefsen

Beginning in January 2010, I met a man from Nepal, a country northeast of India. His background is Hindu. I had the opportunity to take a picture of the man, his mentor and his goddess with multiple heads. I’ve had four wonderful studies with him. His mind is open to learn about the God of the Bible and to share his story about his goddess.

Week 1

After visiting our worship service, he wanted to know the difference between the Jewish person and one who becomes a Christian. I started our study by looking at the book of Genesis. I began with the creation as explained in the first chapter of Genesis. After studying the explanation of the creation beginning with the universe and then planet earth, I asked him to explain how he understands the universe and the earth came into being. He did not know anything about this subject. He had not learned anything about creation from his religion.

Once he learned about the Jewish religion and then learned about Christianity, he said he that he had never heard any details about the two religions. He found the study quite interesting.

Week 2

In our second study, we compared the teachings of the Bible and Hinduism on the subject of God. My God created the Universe in six days. Exodus 20:11; Psalm 121:2; Nehemiah 9:5-6

There are no other Gods: Isaiah 43:10-13, He is eternal, Psalm 90:1-12. Evidences on earth prove God’s existence, Romans 1:18-23

One thing I might add is our visit to a Pizza Restaurant. He asked about the meat on the pizza. He wanted to know if there was any beef in it. He even went back to the cooks and they assured him that there was no beef, just pork in the two he was concerned about. He then felt free to eat the pizza.

I showed him the picture (plate 43) of four individuals who became another being in the next life, page 218 E in my copy of the Bhagavad-gita As It  Is. The top picture is a servant who moved higher to become one with Krsna; never more to return to this planet and eliminating reincarnation from ever moving him backwards. The second picture is a benevolent person moving to a priest position called a demigod because he chose a godly path. The third shows a glutton in this life that turned him into a pig in the next reincarnation. Fourth, a man filled with lust and sexual activity would become a dog in the next life or reincarnation.

Because this Hindu believed that a cow or Brahma bull might be a reincarnation, he refused to eat beef as it might be a relative or at least a former fellow Hindu.

One needs to understand that reincarnation teaches that a cow could be a former human being and to eat beef would violate his understanding of this false concept. He enjoyed the pork on his pizza. I asked him why he could not eat beef but felt free to eat pork. The reason for my question is plate 43 shows a man who became a pig in the next life. I showed my Hindu friend the plate 43 clearly portrayed a glutton as a pig in the next life. I said, “How could you eat a former Hindu who was reincarnated a hog?” He had no comment.

I asked this man for evidences of his goddess and the one he claimed was creator. They have 450,000 gods in Hinduism. He offered no evidences for the god who was creator or for the proof that his goddess could offer proof of her position and assignments.

Week 3

We studied the evidences and position Jesus had prior to creation, in the Old Testament and New Testament He held for Jesus. This started with the plural form of El (God) Elohim and the words Let Us create man in Our image in Genesis 1:26. Later, the word ‘Godhead’ was used in the New Testament. (Acts 17:30, Colossians 2:9) to show the three personalities of the Father, Word, (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. See the tract “What Does The Bible Say About The Nature of God?

Week 4

This study was spent comparing the references to the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit in both the Old and New Testament.

Old Testament referenced concerning the Son: Isaiah 7:15; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 50:6; chapter 53; Psalm 110:1, 4; 22:6-18. New Testament scripture references regarding the Holy Spirit: Acts 5:3, 4; John 16:13; Acts 13:2, 4. References for all Three: Matthew 28:19.

The next session will be counting the cost. The Voice of Martyrs DVD on persecution told that in Nepal it is against the law to leave one religion and endorse another. To do so is punishment that would lead to death or imprisonment.
